Basic aims:  The aim of the course is to provide both theoretical and
applied knowledge about husbandry techniques of dairy
and beef ruminants (cattle, sheep, goat) in particular for
intensive farm system
Acquired skills:  skills and tools for technical assessment of different cattle
and goat production systems in order to manage farms as
a technician or consultant
Course contents:  Dairy cattle production: reproduction and fertility,
weaning, dairy cattle feeding, milking system, dairy
cattle health and welfare, calf and heifer rearing, new herd
system. Beef cattle production: management and feeding
of the main beef cattle categories (veal calves, bulls),
cow-calf production systems, beef cattle health and
welfare, transportation and slaughtery critical point

fertility, heifer rearing, weaning, dairy cattle feeding, dairy
cattle health and welfare, new herd system. Beef cattle

livestock system.
Prerequisites:  Basic knowledge of inorganic and organic chemistry;
morphology and phisiology of digestive system,
reproductive apparatus and mammary gland; basic
knowledge of nutrition and feeding of ruminant animals;
knowledge of farming system management and animal
breeding strategies

Other info:  The examination consists of an oral test at the end of the
course, including two different parts of the course. In
particular, the examination seeks to establish the
student's knowledge on the theoretical and applied
aspects of the course's concepts and the ability to
interpret and verify the connection between topics.
