Basic aims:  To provide data, information and knowledge on: origin, importance, botanical, physiological, agronomic features, biological cycle, quality and quantity of the product obtained by field crops in Europe.
Acquired skills:  Knowledge and capacity to work in the cereal, industrial, forage, seed, feed sectors by using productive tools in sustainable way.
Course contents:  The main field crops in Italy, Europe, world. Classification. The
cropping, farming, agricultural systems The productivity of fiend
crops in the world panorama and the future chances of production
increase. Cereal crops. Durum and winter wheat, corn, rice,
sorghum, minor cereals. Pulses. Tubers. Industrial crops.
Sugarbeet, tobacco, tomatoes, sunflower, cotton. Forage crops.
Agronomic classification. The main forage groups. Poaceae,
fabaceae. Annual forage, meadows, grasses, permanent, pastures.
Program:  The main crops in Italy, Europe, World . Classification. The
concepts of cropping, farming, agricultural systems. Agro-
biodiversity and ecosystems services. The productivity and
production of the main world crops and possible future increases of
yields and improvement of products quality. Cereals. Wheat
(durum and aestivum) corn, rice, sorghum, minor cereals and
pseudo-cereals. Pulses. Tubers. Industrial crops. Sugarbeet,
tomato, tobacco, sunflower, cotton, crops for oil production.
Forage crops. Classification and agronomic issues. The main forage
crops: poaceae and fabaceae. Temporary, permanent forage
crops. Grasses, meadows, pastures. Origin and diffusion,
morfological and physiologic features. Agrotechniques. Integrated
PEst management, Integrated Production.
Analysis of the life/production cycle. Biotic and abiotic stress.
Prerequisites:  Good results in good institutes before University
