Principles of hydraulics and hydrology - HYDRAULICS

Basic aims:  An understanding of rainfall, runoff, evapotranspiration and water dynamics in soil and groundwater is essential for those involved in the science, engineering or management of land and environment. This module provides a conceptual and quantitative understanding of hydrology, as a basis for applied studies of water use in agriculture, water tresources conservation and flood protection.
Acquired skills:  The aim of the course is to give a solid method of hydrologic analysis and the fundamental tools and techiniques for the analysis and solution of hydrological problems, including irrigation water demand estimation and flood protection.
Course contents:  The program covers the fundamentals of hydrostatics and hydrodynamics. Two irrigation plants will be developed using a CAD platform: a microirrigation plant and a system for the irrigation of a residential park.
Program:  Main physical characteristics of the water. Fundamentals of hydraulics and their units. Elements of hydrostatics. Instruments for measuring pressure. General information on water flow. Elements of hydrodanamiccs. Bernoulli's theorem.
Equation of uniform water flow. Uniform flow of water in pipes under pressure. Conducted with pumps. Long pipelines. Free-surface flow. Design criteria and testing. Structures for water regulation in channels.
Design, hydraulic calculations and technical report of a microirrigation plant and an irrigation system for residential green.

written part:
1) two or three exercises to verify basic knowledge
about physics, mathematics, hydrostatic pressure and
currents in the free surface
Students must pass the written test by access to oral.
Oral part:
a) the technical report, in electronic format, of a water
channel of your choice.
This report must include:
- Classification of the area where the channel is placed,
- Identification of the channel on C.T.R. or orthophotos,
- Photographic material found during the inspection,
- Drawing of the section of the channel in one or more
traits of interest with related measures,
- For each of the sections to calculate, on the excel
sheet, the scale of the flow,
- Location along the channel of one or more flow
- Drawing of the measures,
- Calculation, on excel, of the pressure diagram.

b) design of micro-irrigation and residential irrigation
STRICTLY on an electronic format for a portion of land
adjacent to the channel of your choice.
