Animal morphology and physiology (upgrade)
Code: G-00L-
Teacher:  Fabia Rosi
Year:
Term:
CFU:
CFU subdivision: Lectures: 3,5
Practices in classroom: 0,5
Basic aims:  The course is designed to elucidate the fine details of animal biology, anatomy, physiology and metabolism, introduced with the previous course (MFA- Fundamentals), so to provide a solid and up-to-date knowledge both on animal functions and on histological structure and physiological and molecular characteristics of animals and of animal food. Objective of the course is therefore to contribute to equip students with the necessary competences so that he can manage traditional and innovative technologies in many fields, and to contribute to supply cultural basis scientifically correct, necessary in order to form personal opinions with regard to topics of strong impact, like the relationships amnong animal food, environment and human health
Acquired skills:  Deep and up-to-date knowledge both on animal functions and on histological structure and physiological and molecular characteristics of endocrine, nervous and immune systems.
Cultural basis scientifically correct, necessary in order to form personal opinions with regard to topics of strong impact, like the relationships amnong animal food, environment and human health.
Course contents:  Animal tissues, with major details: - Epithelial tissues (exocrine and endocrine glands), hemopoietic and lymphatic connective tissues and nervous tissue. - Endocrine system and chemical communication - Nervous system and electrical communication; Receptors and relation with the environment - Stress and mechanisms of defense (immune processes and thermoregolative strategies) - Integrated systems for the maintenance of homeostasis - Biology of body growth and development. - Animal Phyla - Sea animals as seafood - Wild game-
Program:  Animal tissues, with major details: - Epithelial tissues (exocrine and endocrine glands), adipose connective tissue (brown and white), muscle tissues and nervous tissue. - Endocrine system and chemical communication - Nervous system and electrical communication; Receptors and relation with the environment - Stress and mechanisms of defense (immune processes and thermoregolative strategies) - Integrated systems for the maintenance of homeostasis - Biology of body growth and development. - Egg production and chicken’s egg - Animal Phyla Practicals - Sea animals as seafood - Wild game
